Black Canary

Nestled inside Toronto's best-know comic book store, Silver Snail, is one of the coffee gems of the city. The Black Canary is quirky, but don't let its location fool you. Of all the americanos and lattes we've consumed around the city, these are the best. The crema is rich and thick, and the espresso blend used is perfection.

Highly recommended is the humble americano - ask for it "for here" and you might get one of the comic mugs - or for a treat, the Nutella latte that is made with such care and beautiful latte art. You even get the spoon they used to scoop your Nutella so that none goes to waste.

Overlooking what once was the World's Biggest Bookstore, it's quiet as the other patrons are reading. Occasionally you get a roving "Big Bang Theory" superhero debate, but consider it character.

Don't forget - ask for your loyalty card as the tenth beverage is on them. Considering their location and proximity to Dundas Square and Eaton Center, and the lack of Yonge Street hustle and bustle, it'a a great stop that will have you logging a free latte in no time at all.

Follow Black Canary on twitter or check out Silver Snail. To find the cafe, look for the door and skinny staircase at Edward and Yonge Streets, one block north of Dundas Square.
